The RSA Research Network on EU Cohesion Policy (CPnet) provides a forum for debating EU cohesion policy, its effectiveness, impacts, paradoxes and its future and is delighted to welcome you to a webinar:
Past & futures of Sustainable Development, Environment and Green economy in EU Cohesion policies
6th September 2024 – 14:00-15:45 CEST (13:00-14:45 BST)
EU cohesion and environmental policies have coexisted since their inception, typically traced back to the 1970s and 1980s. However, the integration of cohesion, environmental, and sustainability policies has advanced more slowly and less comprehensively than geographers and regional scientists might have anticipated, especially in light of Adalberto Vallega’s seminal work in the 1990s.
This webinar aims to explore and discuss why the relationship between these policies is not as fully developed as expected and to examine both current trends, future directions, and research needs in light of the post-2027 and within the UN Agenda 2030 and its SDGs.
This work builds on the research presented in the chapter of the book “EU Cohesion Policy: A Multidisciplinary Approach. Multidisciplinary Movements in Research,” edited by Dotti, N. F.; Musiałkowska, I.; De Gregorio Hurtado, S,. and Walczyk, J., and published by Edward Elgar. An engaging and topical book that comprehensively explores the complexities surrounding the EU Cohesion Policy, which has been addressing regional and urban development across Europe since the 1980s. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, it not only considers the goals of this long-term investment policy, which is to reduce territorial disparities between Member States and their regions, but also considers the role it plays in the European integration process and the challenges the EU will face in its future.
