The Board of the Regional Studies Association are pleased to announce the award of the 2023 Regional Leadership Award to Peter Berkowitz, Director, European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DGRegio), Belgium.
The award recognises individuals or organisations in policy and practice who work at the interface between research and policy to develop the field and practice of regional studies and science.
RSA Chief Executive, Sally Hardy was pleased to present the award to Peter Berkowitz during the 2023 EU Regions Week. Accepting the award, Peter Berkowitz thanked the Regional Studies Association Board and recognised the contribution that the Association makes in general to policy makers working at the regional scale. He said:
“I’m very honoured to have received this award. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with the RSA to bring policy and regional studies together at European, national, regional and local level. The RSA has been a key partner in helping the EU develop a more evidence-based regional policy, involving young researchers and building bridges across countries and disciplines. We look forward to continuing the excellent cooperation in the coming years.”
