Our Corporate member, the Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association (ARL), is an independent, non-partisan institution for the spatial sciences, offering knowledge-based analysis and advice on current sustainable spatial development issues. The ARL operates a Knowledge and Communication Platform (www.arl-international.com) that provides access to the Academy’s work internationally and serves as an information, knowledge, and exchange platform for spatial planning professionals. On the platform, the ARL provides Country Profiles, which offer a clearly arranged overview of different European countries.
European countries have different spatial planning systems, but there is currently no comprehensive overview to facilitate comparisons and dialogues within the scientific and planning discourse. The Country Profiles presented on the knowledge and communication platform of the ARL (www.arl-international.com) offer an extensive and comparative overview of each respective planning system. These are supplemented with information on geography, socio-economic and political situations, administrative structure, and the governmental system of each state, as these aspects provide the framework and determine the respective planning system and the options available to planners within their scope of responsibility. So far, 34 Country Profiles have been published, and profiles for additional states are already in progress and will be available online shortly.
