February saw the international conference on regional development in South America: empowering knowledge flows and collaboration networks organised by the RSA funded Research Network Knowledge, Innovation and Regional Development in South America (KIRDSA) with support from the Universidad de la República, the Young Scholar Initiative and the RSA’s Latin America Division.
The conference was held in Montevideo, Uruguay and brought together 40 researchers who had been successful in a selection process representing 10 countries and 22 universities.
With its well-balanced programme, the conference promoted education, stimulated research and regional studies, fostered collaboration, provided knowledge exchange and addressed the complex challenges South America and its scholars are facing. The conference’s social and networking events included social dinners, traditional Uruguayan carnival festivities, parades and dancing.
The conference was a great success, and we thank everyone involved who contributed to this success. Particular thanks go to the three conference organisers: Andrea Belmartino, PhD Student in Urban Studies and Regional Science at GSSI, Italy; Pablo Galaso, Associate Professor at Universidad de la República, Uruguay and Sergio Palomeque, PhD student in Economics at University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
