We welcome Steven Bond Smith as a new co-editor, moving from his current early career editor role. Steven Bond-Smith is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaiʻi Economic Research Organization (UHERO) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Steven is an urban and regional economist with a research focus on the effects of spatial factors on productivity. This research supports the development of place-based policy approaches, informed by theory and data, to support economic growth for more people in more places. His research has been published in the Journal of Economic Geography, Economic Development Quarterly, Journal of Economic Surveys, Economics of Innovation and New Technology, Spatial Economic Analysis, and other international academic journals. Prior to joining UHERO, Steven was a Senior Research Fellow in Economics at Curtin University in Western Australia and was previously employed in various government, corporate, and consulting roles in Australia and New Zealand. Steven has been the early career co-editor for Spatial Economic Analysis since 2021. At the end of his three-year term, Steven will continue in 2025 as a co-editor.
