Professor Henry Wai-Chung Yeung, Professor of Economic Geography at the National University of Singapore; Co-Director of GPN@NUS Centre, and Director of the JY Pillay Comparative Asia Research Centre in the NUS Global Asia Institute
Henry Wai-chung Yeung (PhD Manchester) is Professor of Economic Geography at the National University of Singapore since 2005, Co-Director of GPN@NUS Centre since October 2014, and Director of the JY Pillay Comparative Asia Research Centre in the NUS Global Asia Institute since January 2015. His research interests cover economic globalization, global production networks, East Asian firms, and the political economy of development. He was a recipient of the National University of Singapore Outstanding University Researcher Award (1998) and Outstanding Researcher Award (2008). His latest monographs are Strategic Coupling: East Asian Industrial Transformation in the New Global Economy (forthcoming in Cornell Studies in Political Economy Series, Cornell University Press, Ithaca, March 2016) and Global Production Networks: Theorizing Economic Development in an Interconnected World (with Neil Coe, Oxford University Press, Oxford, April 2015). His previous authored books are: Transnational Corporations and Business Networks (Routledge, 1998), Entrepreneurship and the Internationalisation of Asian Firms (Edward Elgar, 2002), Chinese Capitalism in a Global Era (Routledge, 2004), and Economic Geography: A Contemporary Introduction (with Neil Coe and Phil Kelly, Wiley, 2007/2013). He has published another 7 edited books, over 90 academic journal articles, and 45 book chapters. He is Editor of Environment and Planning A and Economic Geography, and serves on 20 other international journals. He is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK) and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society-Institute of British Geographers (UK) and the Regional Studies Association (UK).

Kevin Morgan is Professor of Governance and Development in the School of Planning and Geography at Cardiff University, and his research interests are in the areas of:

Food / Sustainability
Devolution / Governance/ Territorial Politics
Regeneration / Social Enterprise / Mutualism / Co-operation
Research Experience
Professor Morgan has been awarded 9 ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) awards to date and has secured research grants from a wide array of other funding bodies, including: British Academy; European Commission; Gates Foundation/World Food Programme; Joseph Rowntree Foundation; OECD; Plunkett Foundation, as well as government and development agencies in and beyond the UK. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator of a consortium of ten EU universities and two regional networks that won the FP7 award for Smart Specialisation (which began in July 2013).
The most recent ESRC award (Delivering Sustainability: The Creative Procurement of School Food in Italy, the UK and the US) was rated “outstanding” and in 2013 it won the first ever ESRC award for outstanding impact on public policy in the UK.

Professor Michael Dunford, Sussex University, UK & Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
Michael Dunford is a CAS Senior International Scientist, Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Emeritus Professor, School of Global Studies, University of Sussex. An expert in economic geography and urban and regional analysis, his research deals with growth, inequality and social cohesion; economic reconstruction; industrial development (including global value chains); regional differentiation and urbanization in China, global convergence and theories of regulation. His research includes numerous projects funded by European Union, UK Economic and Social Research Council and the Leverhulme Trust. Since 2006 he has participated in a number of projects in China including and EU-China regional policy dialogue and three projects with the Chinese state Council Leading group on Poverty Alleviation and Development. The results of this research are published in nearly 200 journal articles and book chapters and 10 books and monographs. He is author/co-author of The arena of capital (1983), Capital, the state and regional development (1988), Rhône-Alpes in the 1990s (1991), Successful European regions: Northern Ireland learning from others (1996) and After the three Italies (2006) and co-editor of Industrial change and regional development (1991), Cities and regions in the new Europe (1992) and The geographical transformation of China (2015). In 2000 he was elected to the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS); he was elected an Honorary Member of the Società Geografica Italiana; in 2003 he received the Royal Geographical Society Award for Geographical Research in Europe. In 1996-2002 he was Honorary Editor of Regional Studies, is a member of a number of Editorial Advisory Boards and is a founding Editor of a new journal, Area Development and Policy.

Carlo Gianelle, European Commission, Joint Research Centre, Smart Specialisation Platform, Spain
Carlo Gianelle is a member of the Smart Specialisation Platform at the Joint Research Centre (JRC), Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) of the European Commission. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Siena, Italy, and studied at the University of California Berkeley, specialising in labour economics and development. He has been involved in the implementation of the Smart Specialisation policy of the European Commission from its inception in 2011 and he has contributed in particular to the methodological development of the activities of the Smart Specialisation Platform.
