Regional studies is a dynamic interdisciplinary field combining, urban, political, and economic geography subdisciplines and more. This panel discussion, targeted to student and early career audiences, convenes journal, blog, and book editors, and published authors in regional research to discuss writing up cutting edge research and publishing it in Regional Studies Association’s numerous outlets. Editors will share essential tips on how to draft a successful manuscript, common pitfalls to avoid, and insights into the peer-review process. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and seek advice directly from the editors. The discussion will walk through the ‘ladder’ of publication opportunities students and early career researchers may use to publish (and publicize) their work, with a focus on the range of outlets offered by the Regional Studies Association. Participants can expect to learn the nuts and bolts of the publication process, including:
- Seeking your first published writing opportunities through blog posts, eZines, and other online outlets
- What the field’s leading journal editors are looking for in manuscript submissions and revisions
- When your research is book-worthy, and how to choose an appropriate press or book series to contribute to
- Publication opportunities for all career stages with the Regional Studies Association
