On 25th June we, along with Lisa de Propris (University of Birmingham) and representatives from Taylor and Francis, presented an ‘Evidence Pod’ at Westminster, as part of the Evidence Week organised by Sense about Science. The aim of the event was to brief members of Parliament and the House of Lords about important policy issues. On order to meet the requirements and tight schedules of the MPs and Lords, all briefings were restricted to the challenging amount of only 3 minutes.
The topic of our pod was “Industry 4.0: research tracking the impact of automation”. During our time at parliament, we briefed 15 people interested in these themes, including the following Lords and MPs: – Lord Lucas of Crudwell – Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP – Chi Onwurah MP – Stephen Metcalfe MP Topics we highlighted in our presentation were the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how to measure it; in particular, we focused on questions regarding “The AI readiness of the UK” and implications this has for MPs and potential policies. We would like to thank Lisa de Propris and Taylor and Francis for their support and for offering their expertise and time for the event.
