Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) is one of the 12 certified public universities in Switzerland and member of swissuniversities. It is organised in five faculties and is active in several study and research areas: architecture, communication sciences, computational science, data science, economics, health studies, humanities, informatics, law, medicine and biomedicine.
USI is a young and lively university, a hub of opportunity open to the world where students are offered a quality interdisciplinary education in which they can be fully engaged and take centre stage, and where our researchers can count on having the space to freely pursue their initiative.
Around 3000 students and about 800 professors and researchers, hailing from over 100 countries, convene every day on the three campuses in Lugano, Mendrisio and Bellinzona. The relatively small size of the campuses encourages the free flow and open exchange of ideas within the academic community. USI encourages faculty, students and researchers to develop their potential, and appreciates their curiosity and willingness to experiment with new ways of teaching, thinking, and working.

	Lugano is a city of 65,000 people in the sub-alpine lake district at the very southern tip of Switzerland; to the east, it borders the Italian province of Como. The city, situated within a natural amphitheatre made up of hills and mountains overlooking the lake, is dominated by Monte Bré and Monte San Salvatore, view-points offering thrilling panoramic vistas. Over the years, Lugano has undergone a process of constant transformation: from a mediaeval fishing village with a significant agricultural sector and rural way of life to a popular 19th-century destination for tourists; its Belle Époque heyday was followed by its present identity as a centre for conference tourism. Over the last few decades, economic development and administrative reorganisation have allowed Lugano to free up the resources needed to promote new urban development projects; thanks to the establishment of Ticino University, the city now plays host to an array of specialised research institutes. It has thus been able to play a key role as a knowledge society hub. Nowadays, Lugano is an attractive city for many high added value professions typical of the new services sector.
	Lugano has much to offer in the way of leisure activities: from shopping in Via Nassa to evenings in the many bars or at the casino on the lakefront, you’ll never have time to get bored. In addition, the region offers great opportunities for lovers of fine cooking to savour the cuisine, whether local or international, in restaurants or grottos including nouvelle cuisine and more traditional dishes, but always accompanied by the excellent locally produced Merlot. The Ticino and Lugano landscape draws Swiss and foreign tourists on account of its incredible diversity, its lush nature which is a feature of the entire region, art, culture and sport. A region which is easy to get to and just waiting to be discovered. The area is still very much attached to its ageold traditions, yet projected towards the future, so as to cater equally well to first-timers and returnees.
	The Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau is a national non-profitmaking organisation, representing the leading conference destinations, national event organisers as well as transport companies.
	The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences is an association of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT), the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHS), the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS), and the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW). It further comprises the centre of excellence for technology assessment (TA-SWISS) and Science et Cité as well as other scientific networks. The academies engage themselves specifically for an equitable dialogue between science and society, and they advise politics and society in science-based issues that are relevant to society. They represent sciences across institutions and disciplines. Established in the scientific community, they have access to expertise and excellence and can, therefore, contribute specific knowledge to important political questions.
	Banca dello Stato del Cantone Ticino was founded in1915 with the aim of promoting the economy of the Canton and offering its citizens opportunities for a secure and remunerative investment of their savings. BancaStato not only assists in maintaining the productive economy of the Canton by making capital available to small and medium-sized businesses as well as to individuals in Ticino, but also by lending its active support to associations, cultural societies and charities. The Institution also works in cooperation with leading economic, industrial, commercial and artisan associations, as well as with the State, to promote the economy through the organisation of conferences and seminars on important, topical subjects of interest to the entrepreneurs in our Canton.

	The ROREP is an independent association bringing together people from research and practice in the field of regional and urban development and planning in Switzerland. The ROREP provides a platform for inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations dealing with social, economic and environmental challenges of development in space and places. The ROREP is open to all topics and seeks to bridge and overcome traditional opposing categories such as Cities – Peripheries, Swiss Confederation – Cantons – Municipalities, German – Latine speaking populations, or Social – Economic – Environmental.
