We would like to welcome Tom Merriweather, our new Head of Publishing, to the RSA team. Tom has joined the RSA after many years working for leading academic publishers, specifically Elsevier and Sage Publishing. At the latter, as a Director, he helped lead the development of the company’s (then) nascent medicine and life science programme, as well as its gold OA journal programme. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with academic Societies and Associations and is delighted to have the opportunity to hop over the fence to work for the RSA. Tom has a BSc Hons and an MBA.
Tom said:
I am thrilled to be joining the RSA as its first permanent Head of Publishing. The Association has six highly regarded journals and two influential book series, and I very much look forward to working with the RSA leadership, editorial teams and its publishing partners to continue the development of the programme and, in so doing, help further the RSA’s contribution to research in the field of regional studies and the impact of that research on policy-making.
“RSA Chief Executive Alan Kinder said:
We’re thrilled to welcome Tom to the regional studies community as the RSA Head of Publishing. He arrives an exciting phase in our development as an Association, as we reach our 60th anniversary year and look ahead to the formulation of a new strategic plan. Tom brings with him vast experience in supporting the development of scholarly publishing programmes, in partnership with a wide range of membership associations and learned societies. On behalf of the RSA’s members, editorial teams, trustees and staff, I wish Tom every success in this pivotal role for the RSA.”
