Applications are invited for 2 x 24-month full-time Research Fellows positions on the recently funded ESRC Project: Powering Up Coastal Economies: Path Creation in Low Carbon and Renewable Energies.
The aim of the project is to investigate and compare the regional development paths of low carbon energy sectors in four coastal regions of the UK, and explore the regional outcomes of energy transitions. The project is led by Professor Peter Sunley, in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science, University of Southampton and the post holders will work closely with the other investigators: Professors Stuart Dawley and Danny MacKinnon (Geography and CURDS, Newcastle), and Professor Jane Wills (Geography, Exeter).
In particular, the research project focuses on how and why the growth of Low Carbon Renewable Energies (LCREs) varies across coastal regions of the UK, by exploring and comparing the development trajectories of key industries (offshore wind, tidal, hydrogen and carbon capture, battery and storage technologies) in four coastal regions (the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside, Eastern Scotland and the South West). It will examine path development and inter-path relations in the sectors and seek to understand the consequences for regional development and implications for policy support.
