Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Human-Environment Interactions
The Department of Geography in the College of Social Sciences & Public Policy at Florida State University seeks a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in critical Human Geography. The successful candidate will have demonstrated commitment to sustaining a research agenda in human-environment interactions, with interests that bridge disciplinary boundaries. Relevant geographic sub-disciplines for this position include political ecology, environmental justice, urban geography, and critical science geographies, such as critical physical geography. We especially welcome applications from candidates whose research applies community-based methodologies that engage historically marginalized forms of knowledge, such as participatory action research, ethnography, storywork, testimonio, or community archival projects.
Requirements
A doctoral degree in Geography or closely related field is required. Publication of research in outlets appropriate to the candidate’s specialty is expected. Strong candidates will express desire to contribute high quality classroom instruction and graduate student mentoring in the department’s programs that include a bachelor’s degree in Geography, a bachelor’s degree in Environment and Society, a master’s degree in Geography, a master’s degree in Geographic Information Science, and a Ph.D. in Geography. The teaching assignment is 4 courses per year (2-2) and includes courses pertaining to geography, the environment, and society, consistent with the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. Prospective candidates will demonstrate future promise to sustain a long-term program of research, teaching, and service based on their accomplishments to date and stated future professional goals. The start date for the position is August 2025.
