The travel award given to me by the RSA allowed me to attend the exciting conference “Regional Urbanism in the era of globalization” in Huddersfield, organised by the University of Huddersfield – UK. Through an examination of such issues as environmental sustainability, cultural/civic identity, transportation, health and well-being and social/economic development, the conference offered a unique platform for multi-disciplinary debate between academics, policy-makers and practitioners.I presented my work to an audience of Researchers and Academics from a diversity of fields, such as: geography, anthropology, sociology, architecture and urbanism. The paper I presented sparked a productive debate through which I could listen useful doubts and contributions, as well as allow me to extend my thoughts and bring other theoretical and empirical considerations about my work, what was really well received by the audience.During the 3 days of conference I could get engaged with a large range of researchers from several fields and coming from some diverse cultural contexts.
At the beginning of my presentation I mentioned the support that I had received from RSA, hopefully contributing to raise awareness about the generous benefits given to members of this association.
As a PhD student I have a limited amount of funds that can be used to attend conferences. The RSA award allowed me to pay part of my trip to Huddersfield. Without this contribution it would not have been possible to attend the RUEG annual conference. Thank you RSA.
