Imogen Liu is Assistant Professor of International Political Economy at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Prior to joining the VU in 2023, she was a PhD candidate at Maastricht University where her dissertation focused on the transnational integration of Chinese state capital in Europe.
Situated at the intersection of political economy, economic geography and development studies, her research is animated by questions surrounding the role of the state in global capitalist development. She has published in a wide range of journals including Journal of Economic Geography, Area Development and Policy, Geopolitics, Socio-Economic Review and Contemporary Politics on topics covering state capitalism, infrastructure development, financialisation, industrial policy, geoeconomics and sovereign wealth funds.
