Tanya is a PhD candidate at the Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich. She is part of the Urban-Rural Systems team at Future Cities Laboratory, focused on capturing the different territorial transformation taking place across Monsoon Asia. Her doctoral work focuses on translating the territorial transformation unfolding in India’s Bengal region into policy evaluation tools by capturing the local changing material culture of housing and mobility in impact assessments of national road development projects.
Her experience in designing, planning and policy research comes from working with multidisciplinary teams at Sangath and SELCO Foundation in India and Veldacademie and Play the City in the Netherlands. She has worked on issues surrounding the housing crisis, technology adoption in mobility, and setting sustainable development agendas, from the perspective of how to make them affordable and just. These topics were explored in most parts of India and the Netherlands, and selectively in New York and Shenzhen. Tanya earned her master’s in Urbanism at TU Delft in the Netherlands in 2015 and bachelor’s in Architecture at Manipal University in India in 2010. She has presented her work at conferences, biennale and colloquiums across Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.
