A lot of us here at RSA blog headquarters love a good map. So it is no surprise that we took an interest in what the folks at Google have been announcing lately. While there have often been concerns about privacy in relation to their Street View mapping service they have decided to expand beyond their shutter-bug eager cars and move into the wilderness.
The new Street View Trekker service will allow people to take a virtual walk along trails, across streams and over hills, opening up many of the natural environment spaces that are so critical to regional economies and quality of life. The photo above demonstrates the new equipment, which is basically a scaled down version of all the gear that normally goes onto the Google Street View cars.
